TimeSys Introduces Linux Development Kits for a Wide Range of Freescale Processors Based on PowerPC Cores; Rapidly Commercializes Latest Freescale-developed Linux Through TimeSys OnBoard Program for Semiconductor Vendors
PITTSBURGH—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 3, 2005—
TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in embedded Linux(R)
technologies and development tools, today introduced 2.6-based
TimeStorm(R) Linux Development Kits (LDKs) for a wide range of
Freescale PowerQUICC(TM) III, PowerQUICC II and PowerQUICC I
integrated communications processors and MPC7XXX and MPC7XX
high-performance PowerPC processors. The LDKs include the latest
Freescale-developed Linux and were produced through Freescale's
participation in the TimeSys OnBoard Program(TM) for semiconductor
vendors.
The recently introduced TimeSys OnBoard Program continuously
delivers the latest Linux features from the open source community,
semiconductor IP licensors and semiconductor vendors to embedded
developers through processor-optimized TimeStorm(R) Linux Development
Kits (LDKs). Through its OnBoard relationship with Freescale, TimeSys
continuously packages, maintains and supports LDKs with the latest
Freescale-developed enhancements for the PowerPC architecture, which
is an integral part of embedded devices used in networking,
communications, military, storage and pervasive computing
applications.
"Linux is becoming an operating system of choice for an increasing
number of designs using Freescale processors, and the TimeSys OnBoard
Program provides embedded developers with a commercial source for
Freescale-developed Linux," said David Mothersole, Distinguished
Technology Fellow and Chief Technology Officer for Freescale's
Networking and Computing Systems Group. "The OnBoard Program has
rapidly made processor-optimized Linux Kits available for a wide range
of Freescale processors based on the PowerPC architecture."
Each TimeStorm LDK is optimized for a specific Freescale processor
and includes a complete 2.6-based embedded Linux distribution with
ready-to-run target images (kernel and root file system) and the
Eclipse 3.0-based TimeStorm Linux Development Suite(R) (LDS)
cross-development environment to facilitate application development,
as well as kernel and device driver platform customization.
"TimeSys is pleased to bring to market many new Linux Development
Kits optimized for Freescale processors less than 60 days after
Freescale joined the OnBoard Program," said Larry Weidman, President
and CEO of TimeSys. "Freescale's commitment to making their latest
Linux optimizations commercially available through the OnBoard Program
reinforces the growing importance of Linux to embedded developers
across a wide range of industries."
